Burke County Commissioners and City Council members in both Morganton and Valdese have declared next week, Nov. 16-24, as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week in their respective areas.

Special programs will be sponsored throughout the week by the Burke County Continuum of Care, a group of local agencies and individuals working together to end hunger and homelessness in Burke County. According to Joe Marks, executive director of the Meeting Place Mission, hunger and homelessness continue to plague communities across the country and remain prevalent concerns in western North Carolina.
