MORGANTON — The state budget’s direct effect on Burke County Schools was a hot topic of conversation at the Burke County Board of Education meeting Monday.

Keith Lawson, finance officer for Burke County schools, said despite what state legislators say, the direct impact on Burke County Schools is significant.
