Planned Walmart grocery store draws criticism

Recent news of Walmart’s plans to build a new Neighborhood Market on North Green Street has garnered much criticism from local residents.

In comments on The News Herald Facebook page, residents claim that the chain only brings low-paying jobs and, in-turn, jeopardizes jobs at other grocery chains in the area through increased competition. Others cite the many buildings — including the former Walmart building — that now sit empty due to the opening of Morganton Heights.
