The Morganton Downtown Development Association has created a new way to recognize local businesses.

The Morganton DDA hosted its inaugural Downtown Distinguished Awards on Tuesday, June 4, at the Morganton Community House. The objective of the awards is to recognize, honor and spotlight DDA member businesses that have excelled over the past year (July 2018 to June 2019).

Three downtown businesses were honored:

» Treat won the “Picture Perfect Award,” which recognizes excellence in a DDA member business that consistently creates an attractive, inviting, and vibrant presence in downtown Morganton with unique storefronts, seasonal themes, and welcoming views to those who pass by.

» Adventure Bound Books won the “With the Cherry on Top Award,” which recognizes excellence in a DDA member business that reflects and offers a customer service that exceeds the expectation of shoppers.

» Sherri’s School of Dance’s Halloween Witch Flash Mob won the “Breath of Fresh Air Award,” which recognizes excellence in a DDA Member Business that has offered an event or program open to the public that has not been offered, innovative, enhances the quality of life for participants and contributes to the vitality of our downtown community.

“Congratulations to Treat, Adventure Bound Books, and Sherri’s School of Dance for their hard work and efforts to enhance the downtown Morganton community,” officials with the DDA said.

The winners of the Downtown Distinguished Awards were selected based on votes submitted through a public survey.
