Swing Nuts LLC, a privately held enterprise owned by Kaleb and Jennifer Nicholson of Morganton, recently acquired Wood Tree Swings, a Morganton-based manufacturer of solid wood tree swings and equipment sold online around the world.

The Nicholsons also own and operate Limbwalkers Tree and Crane Services, a tree service company serving western North Carolina.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Founded in 2004 by Deron Morrow, Wood Tree Swings manufactures an assortment of high-quality, safe and durable solid hardwood tree and porch swings and supporting equipment. It has grown from a single-person business operating in a garage and offering a few single-seat swings to a multi-site enterprise that crafts and sells customized handcrafted swings, tire swings, swings for patios and porches, hanging kits, specialized rope and other accessories. These products are sold direct to consumers across a variety of e-commerce platforms, including its website, WoodTreeSwing.com, Amazon, eBay and Etsy.

“I have had a lot of fun and success building the Wood Tree Swing business from scratch,” Morrow said. “We grew from making swings for family and friends to selling thousands and thousands of swings around the world every year.”

Customers from 2018 included people across the United States, Germany, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Great Britain and other countries.

“I have been thinking about retiring for several years, but was waiting for the right person to come in and buy the business,” he said. “I had a lot of offers, and Jennifer and her husband, Kaleb, are the right people.”

Jennifer Nicholson said they have been watching Wood Tree Swings’ success for several years. One of the attractive elements, she said, is the natural fit between Wood Tree Swings’ product assortment and Kaleb Nicholson’s tree service practice.

“It’s a great fit and an easy expansion of our other business,” she said. “We’ve known Deron for a long time. We know his business very well. We are delighted and proud to become the new owners and take Wood Tree Swings to the next level.
