VALDESE — The Valdese Family Friday Nights summer concert series will continue its season with the band Southwind, beginning at 7 p.m. Friday night in the Wells Fargo/town parking lot in downtown Valdese.
Southwind, formerly known as Blind Justus, is no stranger to the Valdese stage. A fan favorite from previous seasons, the group is set to feature a great variety of classic rock hits. Southwind plays throughout the summer at local venues and has established a strong following in the area. The band consists of lead singer Liberty Parker, Pat Harton (vocals/guitar), Cliff File (saxophone), Danny Powell (bass guitar and vocals), Greg Bills (drums) and Danny Wells (guitar/mandolin/dobro).
Southwind is the name of a song written by two Vietnam War veterans, Tommy Parker and Robert Wiseman, about the Vietnam War. In one way or another, all the band’s members have a connection to family or friends who served in that war. But what makes the band name even more special to the group is that one band member is the daughter of one of the veteran songwriters and another member lost his veteran dad during his father’s service in Vietnam. The band is renamed Southwind to honor all veterans.
Concessions will be available and provided by the local community theatre, Old Colony Players, and a 50/50 raffle will be offered. Concert attendees are encouraged to visit local restaurants in downtown Valdese and check out the retail shops and boutiques while they are visiting.
