Trick-or-treaters make their way through downtown Morganton during last year's Halloween Spooktacular.

Family, friends, kids both young and old are invited to Downtown Morganton’s Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Folks can join the Morganton’s Downtown Development Association for its trick-or-treat event around the downtown area.

Ghosts will hang in the windows of downtown merchants to designate businesses that will greet trick-or-treaters from 3-5 p.m. Find a map of participating businesses at downtownmorganton.com.

When trick-or-treaters’ bags are full of candy, they can head to the Historic Burke County Courthouse Square lawn for inflatable fun provided by Summit Community Church and free games and activities, compliments of the city of Morganton Recreation Department.

Trick-or-treaters who have an outstanding costume should participate in the costume contest. Registration for the free costume contest opens at 3:30 p.m., with judging beginning at 5 p.m.

Downtown Bucks (certificates that can be redeemed at downtown businesses) will be given out for first-, second- and third-places in four age groups ranging from newborns to 10-year-olds, as well as family/group (three or more) themed costumes. There is no cost to enter, so everyone is invited to come out and join in the fun.
