Dear Community of Morganton:

Recently our church (North Morganton United Methodist Church) experienced a break-in that resulted in some damage and theft.

We would like to express our appreciation to the city of Morganton Law Enforcement for their prompt and efficient response to this burglary as well as the arrest of two suspects. We thank all those who work to protect our community.

Some of the items that were stolen were recovered, but not all were able to be recouped, including many of the gift cards/certificates (donated by area businesses) totaling $2,700 that were taken from an office in the church.

As a result, we notified each of the businesses whose donated gift card had been stolen, and every one of these businesses very graciously reissued another gift card to take the place of those that had been stolen. Our hearts were warmed at the generosity and kindness of these businesses.

Despite this experience of a break-in, we truly have experienced lots of good in our community – and we wanted to take the opportunity to thank those who, even in the midst of a break-in to our church, have supported us and made us “feel good” about living in Morganton.
