A man was killed in a Friday morning wreck west of Glen Alpine.

John Mull Jr., 39, of Morganton, was headed eastbound on U.S. 70 from Dysartsville Road when he lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road, the car flipped and he was ejected, said Trooper A.J. Carpenter with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Mull was pronounced dead at the scene, Carpenter said. It was possible that he was ran over by his own vehicle, Carpenter said.

His estimated speed before impact was 75 mph, Carpenter said.

It’s unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, Carpenter said.

NCSHP got the call at around 5:03 a.m., Carpenter said.

Mull Jr. was the son of the late Judge John Mull, according to his obituary. Judge Mull died in 2009 after pulling one of his other children out of the Catawba River, according to a previous News Herald article.

West End Fire Department and Burke County EMS responded along with NCSHP.
