Four people were transported to a local hospital after a three-car wreck in Morganton early Monday afternoon.
The crash occurred when a Mitsubishi turning left from Amherst Road onto Kirksey Drive apparently pulled into the path of a Ford Taurus headed toward the old Bi-Lo building on East Union Street at around 12:28 p.m., said Sgt. J.M. Coward with the Morganton Department of Public Safety.
Those cars hit, which spun the Taurus around and caused it to hit a Mercedes Benz that was stationary on Amherst Road, closest to Emmanuel Spanish Assembly of God, Coward said.
The Mitsubishi ran off the road before coming to a stop in someone’s yard.
The drivers of all the cars were transported to local hospitals along with a 13-year-old male passenger in the Mitsubishi, Coward said. As far as he knew, no one had life-threatening injuries.
Coward said the wreck was called in with entrapment because someone in the Mitsubishi couldn’t get their door open, but no one was pinned inside the vehicle.
No charges had yet been issued, and officers were still working to determine whether the Mitsubishi driver had ran the stop sign or just didn’t see the Taurus coming, Coward said.
MDPS fire and police responded along with the Burke County Rescue Squad, Burke County EMS and Burke County REACT.
