Investigators are set to present their remaining evidence in the Thursday shooting death of a man.
Leonard Evan Loehr, 42, was found dead at 1855 Skyland Drive, Lot 3, after deputies were dispatched to the address at 2:51 a.m. for a reported self-defense shooting, according to a Thursday release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Steve Whisenant told The News Herald by text message Friday that his office had presented evidence to the district attorney’s office Thursday, and that he expects his office to present the rest of its findings to the DA early next week for a decision on what charges, if any, should be issued.
The shooter, who has not been identified, called 911 himself and made contact with deputies at a nearby school, Whisenant told reporters Thursday. The shooter told deputies he came to the address to help Loehr move some items, but that an argument ensued.
Whisenant said Thursday there was a struggle for a shotgun in the house when the shooter pulled his gun and shot Loehr. Only one shot was fired.
Witness statements corroborated what the shooter told police, Whisenant said.
The shooting still is under investigation.
