A truck that caught fire Friday evening was destroyed.

The cause of the fire that destroyed the vehicle parked at D&D Auto Sales at 2330 U.S. 70 East was unknown, said Triple Community Fire Chief Farrell Duplain.

No one was injured in the fire, which was called in at 6:51 p.m., Duplain said.

The vehicle did not belong to the lot, Duplain said. It’s possible that the owners had left it to be worked on.

It took firefighters from Triple Community and Drexel fire departments longer to extinguish this fire than a typical vehicle fire because the type of vehicle had magnesium in it, Duplain said.

He explained that, when extinguishing a fire where magnesium is involved, water can just exacerbate the fire. Foam had to be used to put out the fire.
