A district court judge ordered that public records in a Monday night shooting death be sealed for 30 days.
Jeremy Shayne Baldridge, 22, of 105 Frank Ave. SE in Valdese, was charged with murder in the Monday night shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, 18-year-old Caitlyn Alexis Truax.
Under the order, signed by Judge Mark L. Killian, the 911 recording, transcripts and any related reports from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, search warrants, applications for search warrants and the results of the search warrants will be held and sealed by the Burke County Clerk of Court’s Office for 30 days from Thursday, a copy of the order said.
According to a statement from District Attorney Scott Reilly’s office, releasing the 911 call would jeopardize Baldridge’s right to a fair trial, the state’s ability to prosecute and law enforcement’s ongoing investigation.
Reporters from local media outlets, including The News Herald, requested the audio recording of the 911 call from the shooting on Wednesday from the DA’s office . However, the requests went unanswered and no reporters were told of the motion to seal the documents ahead of court time Thursday.
Police said Tuesday that Baldridge admitted to shooting Truax in a 911 call and to a deputy when he was picked up walking away from the crime scene on McDuffy Road late Monday night.
More information will be published as it becomes available.
