A man held employees at gun point before getting away with cash Tuesday night at Marquee Cinemas.
According to Morganton Department of Public Safety Investigator Tim Corriveau, at 11:50 p.m., dispatchers received a call that a man robbed the theater at gun point.
Corriveau said the suspect walked up on two employees emptying trash in the back of the business and displayed a gun, forcing the two into the movie theater.
The employees led the suspect to the office where he stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
Afterwards, the perpetrator closed the door behind him, leaving the employees in the office to make a getaway.
Corriveau said no one was hurt in the incident and, after K-9 tracking, authorities were unable get a direction of travel on the man.
A suspect has not been identified at this time, however, witnesses describe him as 5-foot, 10-inches tall and wearing a light-colored, long sleeve T-shirt and blue jeans with boots. He also had an orange shirt wrapped around his face.
This isn’t the first robbery of this kind in the Unifour area as the Carmike Westgate Twin Cinema in Lenoir was robbed by another suspect with a gun.
According to Lenoir Police Sgt. Cristol Taylor, a man walked into the theater and demanded money close to closing time.
It is unclear if the two robberies are connected, but authorities at MDPS and LPD are working together on the investigation.
