A number of students with local ties received their college degrees following the fall 2019 semester, while others earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2019 semester at their respective colleges and universities.

Western Carolina University conferred degrees on 801 students who completed their studies during fall sessions of 2019.

A total of 324 undergraduate students received academic honors, with 98 graduating summa cum laude (with highest honors), 123 graduating magna cum laude (with high honors) and 103 graduating cum laude (with honors).

Among the students who graduated are:

» Noah Jackson Davis of Connelly Springs received a B.S. in biology.

» Tyler Landon Thompson of Connelly Springs received a B.S. in recreational therapy.

» Randy G. Gibson of Icard received a B.S.N. in nursing — Capstone.

» Hannah Elizabeth Bailey of Morganton received a B.S. in biology, with summa cum laude honors.

» Samantha Marie Blevins of Morganton received a B.S.W. in social work.

» Charles Nicholas Millsaps of Morganton received a B.S.-business administration in management.

» Brandy Kay Padgett of Morganton received a B.S. in natural resource conservation management.

» Clinton Bryce Patton of Morganton received a B.S.-business administration in business administration and law, with cum laude honors.

» John Joseph Roe of Morganton received a B.S. in history.

» Audrey Renee Travis of Morganton received a B.S.W. in social work, with magna cum laude honors.

» Jennifer Vandergraff of Morganton received a B.S.-business administration in innovation leadership and entrepreneurship, with magna cum laude honors.

» Christy Xiong of Morganton received a B.S. of biology, with magna cum laude honors.

» Emily Ann Nickell of Nebo received a B.S.-business administration in accounting.

» Jacob Cahill Lowman of Valdese received a B.S. in chemistry.

» Ryker Franklin Warlick of Valdese received a B.S.-business administration in business administration and law.

Elsewhere:

One local man was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester at Emerson College.

» Ethan Brant, a native of Morganton, has been named to the Emerson College dean’s list for the fall 2019 semester.

Brant is majoring in media arts production and is a member of the class of 2021. The requirement to make Emerson’s dean’s list is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher.

Three students earned dean’s list honors at Eastern Connecticut State University for the fall 2019 semester.

Among the students who received dean’s list honors are:

» Yarely Hernandez ‘24, a full-time student from Hickory who majors in psychology.

» Fatima Landeros ‘22, a full-time student from Lenoir who majors in social work.

» Maricruz Landeros Hernandez ‘20, a full-time student from Lenoir who majors in accounting.

Recognition for the dean’s list is given at the end of each semester to matriculated students in good standing with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
