Maggie Howe, of Hickory, N.C., was named to the College of Charleston fall 2019 president's list. Howe is a Dance and Accounting major. 

A number of local students were recognized by their respective universities following the fall 2019 semester.

Mars Hill University recognizes 305 students named on the honor roll of the academic dean at the end of the fall 2019 semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 on a minimum of 12 semester hours, and carry no grade below a C.

Among them are:

» Kameron N. Reynolds of Lawndale

» William Zamari Brawley of Morganton

» Natalie Shae Debruhl of Morganton

» Brandy Reann Banner of Newland

» Hannah Marie McIntosh of Newland

» Jocelyn Selby Baughman of Valdese

» Andrew M. Juhnke of Valdese

Elsewhere, a local student was named to the dean’s list at Grove City College.

» Michael Thompson, a senior physics major at Grove City College, has been named to the dean’s list with distinction for the fall 2019 semester. Michael is a 2016 graduate of Homeschool and is the son of Reverend and Mrs. Michael Thompson (Robin) from Morganton.

Students eligible for the dean’s list have a GPA of 3.40 to 3.59; for the dean’s list with distinction a GPA of 3.60 to 3.84 and for the dean’s list with high distinction a GPA of 3.85 to 4.0.

Another local student earned fall 2019 president’s list honors at College of Charleston.

» Maggie Howe, of Hickory, was named to the College of Charleston fall 2019 president’s list. Howe is a dance and accounting major.

To qualify for president’s list (highly distinguished), students must earn a GPA of 3.80 or higher and complete a minimum of 14 semester hours.

Lastly, a local student qualified for the fall 2019 dean’s list at Seton Hall University.

» Lawson Barkley of Hickory has qualified for the fall 2019 dean’s list.

After the close of every semester, undergraduate students completing all courses with a GPA of 3.4, with no grades lower than “C,” qualify for the dean’s list.
