A woman who led police on a high-speed chase to the sheriff’s office claimed she was turning herself in on a warrant that didn’t exist.
Tracy Nicole Brooks, 41, of 100 Goins Drive in Valdese, was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest on Wednesday, according to a release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives tried to pull over an Acura that was speeding through a work zone on Interstate 40 near mile marker 111, the release said. The vehicle failed to stop for emergency lights and siren, reaching speeds of 110 mph.
The chase lasted for about 7 miles, ending when the driver pulled into the sheriff’s office parking lot off Government Drive , the release said.
Brooks, who was driving the car, advised deputies she was turning herself in on an outstanding warrant, but there were no outstanding warrants, the release said.
Brooks was given a $10,000 secured bond and has a first court appearance set for Friday, the release said. Her vehicle was seized under North Carolina’s Run and You’re Done law.
