The organizers of the annual Patton High School Homecoming Parade are expecting a crowd of spectators at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in downtown Morganton. The parade will commence at the intersection of East Union Street and Greene Street and end at the corner of West Union Street and College Street.
Robert L. Patton IV will serve as Grand Marshal of the 2016 Patton High School Parade. Patton was an educator and principal for Burke County Schools for more than 34 years. He began his teaching career in Virginia Beach, teaching Earth Science from 1970-71. Patton received his m aster’s degree in biology in 1972 and began teaching biology, physics and physical science at Morganton High School. He moved to Freedom High School where he taught biology during the 1973-74 school year. During the 1974-75 school year, he became assistant principal at Drexel Elementary School. The next year he transitioned to Morganton Junior High School where he was assistant principal from 1975-78. Patton was moved to George Hildebrand Junior High School to serve as principal of from 1978-79. He was then appointed principal of Glen Alpine Junior High School from 1979-1989. He then moved to East Junior High now known as East Burke Middle School for 16 years.
In addition to the Grand Marshal, the parade will feature the 13 young women chosen by the school’s senior class to vie for the coveted title of Patton High School’s Homecoming Queen 2016. Representatives from the senior class include Mikayla Abee, Tess Causby, Brooke Hall, Gracie Hawkins, Ashlee Lo, Lendlee McPeters, Courtney Medina, Ava Miller, Shikha Patel, Madison Phillips, Judith Rosales, Hannah Seagle and Madison Sesco.
The Patton High School varsity football team will come clad in their football attire ready to prepare themselves, their student body, and the community for the Homecoming festivities as they take on the Fred T. Foard Tigers. Many other Patton fall sports teams will also participate in the parade, including cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, volleyball, as well as the varsity cheerleading squad. Also taking part in the parade will be players and athletes from the athletic programs of each of Patton’s feeder elementary and middle schools and community recreation programs.
The parade will also feature winners of the annual Miss Patton Pageant, including Miss Patton 2016, Miss Morgan Proctor.
The Patton High School Marching Band and many clubs will round out the parade, along with several faculty members.
“Patton High School is proud to present our annual Homecoming Parade on Oct. 11 in downtown Morganton,” said PHS Principal Wendi Barber. “This special event will begin at 6 p.m. Come out and show your Panther Pride.” On Saturday night, Patton will host a Homecoming Dance where our Homecoming King will be crowned. Our Homecoming King’s Court consists of Sam Buchanan, Matt Curtis, Skyler Durham, Aiman Hussein, Zack Johnson, Connor Larmore, Braxton Link, Jordon McCarty, Eduardo Mendoza-Reyes, Shane Moody, Kevin Palacios, Chris Pettus and Mercury Villanueva.
» Mikayla Abee is the daughter of Hermy and Ted Belcher. Mikayla participates in varsity cheerleading and is on the Patton Dance Team. She works at The Dance Factory and is an active participant in dance events. Mikayla plans to attend a four-year university and pursue a degree in the medical field. She is escorted by Skyler Durham, the son of Shanea Woody and Nathan Wilson.
» Tess Causby is the daughter of Deanne Avery and Jason Causby. She has participated in varsity cheerleading, serving as Senior Captain this year. She is a member of Anchor Club, National Honor Society, Panthers vs. Cancer Club, SGA, and Spirit Club. Causby is the Vice President of SGA and Vice President of the Panthers vs. Cancer Club. She volunteers at Burke United Christian Ministries, a committee member for the Night of Light 5K, and a member of Run for God program. Casuby plans to attend a four-year university, majoring in mathematics or chemistry. She is escorted by Kevin Palacios, the son of Ester Gonzalez and Manuel Palacios.
» Brooke Hall is the daughter of Melinda Harvey and Noel Hall. She is a member of the varsity volleyball team. She is a member of the Anchor Club, National Honor Society, Panthers vs. Cancer Club, and Spirit Club. Brooke served on the Prom Committee and was a Junior Usher. She has volunteered at American Red Cross events, Burke United Christian Ministries, and Friends for Animals. Hall plans to go to a four-year university and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She is escorted by Lucas Lawson, the son of Rhonda Rhoney and Keith Lawson.
» Gracie Hawkins is the daughter of Chris and Lori Hawkins. She has participated in basketball for four years. Gracie is a member of the Anchor Club, National Honor Society, and Panthers vs. Cancer Club. She is also an active member of her church youth group. Hawkins plans to attend a community college and pursue an Associate’s Degree in Radiology. She is escorted by Ben Sholar, the son of Marc and Stacey Sholar.
» Ashlee Lo is the daughter of Joe and Tue Yang Lo. Ashlee has participated in cheerleading for four years. She represented Patton High School as a Scholar Athlete on the North Carolina All-Region and All-Star Cheerleading Team. She participated in the powder puff football games and is the powder puff cheerleading coach this year. Lo is Secretary of the Anchor Club, Recording Secretary of the National Honor Society, and a member of SGA and Spirit Club. She was the stage manager in “Little Mermaid”, served on the Prom Committee and was a Junior Marshal. Lo is the President of the Student Body and Editor of the Patton High School yearbook. Ashlee volunteered at the Morganton Festival and Blue Elves Christmas Project. Lo plans to attend a four-year university and major in veterinary medicine. She is escorted by Anthony Orellana, the son Humberto and Marlen Orellana.
» Lendlee McPeters is the daughter of Sherrie McPeters and Brian McPeters. Lendlee participates in softball. She is a member of HOSA and assists with blood drives. She is a member of the youth group at her church and assists with children’s activities. Lendlee plans to attend college and pursue a nursing career. McPeters is escorted by Weston Key, the son of James and Robin Key.
» Courtney Medina is the daughter of Dr. Rudy and Kim Medina. She participates in varsity cross-country and varsity soccer. Medina is a member of the Anchor Club, National Honor Society, Panthers vs. Cancer Club, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society, and Spirit Club. Courtney was a Junior Marshal and is currently Vice President of the Student Body. Courtney participates in the youth group at St. Charles Borromero Medina plans to attend a four-year university and major in social work and criminology and minor in Spanish. She is escorted by Jade Riles, the son of Jeff and Gina Riles.
» Ava Miller is the daughter of Linda and Rick Lindsay and Brett and Lisa Miller. Miller has participated in varsity cheerleading and is on the Patton Dance Team. She is President of Anchor Club, a member of the National Honor Society and was a Junior Usher. She serves on the Prom Committee and is Editor of the Patton High School yearbook Miller is also in the chorus and played the role of Ariel in the school musical “Little Mermaid”. She participates in the church choir, praise band, and Christmas programs. Miller plans to attend a four-year university to major in music education and performance. She is escorted by Seth Hembree, the son of Kitty Finney and James Pittman.
» Shikha Patel is the daughter of Vasant and Gita Patel. She is a member of the Anchor Club, National Honor Society, and the French Club. Patel volunteers at Burke United Christian Ministries. She plans to attend a four-year university and major in business. She is escorted by Jordan McCarty, the son of Kristina Abee and James McCarty.
» Madison Phillips is the daughter of Christina Hall and Greg Phillips. She participates in basketball, powder puff, and track. Phillips is a member of the Anchor Club, National Honor Society, SGA, Science Olympiad, Panthers vs. Cancer Club, and Spirit Club. She is the Senior Class President and volunteers at Friends for Animals. Phillips plans to attend a four-year university to become a veterinarian. She is escorted by Uriah Standish, the son of Eric Rowe.
» Judith Rosales is the daughter of Jorge and Martha Franco and Lisa and Joey Mull. She participates in powder puff and is a member of the Patton Band. Rosales is a member of the Anchor Club, Vice-President of National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Spanish Club, Spanish National Honor Society, and Secretary of the SGA. Rosales served as a Junior Marshal. She volunteers at the Christian Outreach Center and Historic Morganton Festival. Rosales plans to attend a four-year university and major in biology. She is escorted by Connor Larmore, the son of Nicky Chatman and Jamie Larmore.
» Hannah Seagle is the daughter of Dr. Roger and Tyra Seagle. She serves as Captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, is a member of the Patton Dance Team, and participates in powder puff. Seagle is a member of the Anchor Club, HOSA, National Honor Society, Panther Pals, Panthers vs. Cancer Club, Refuge Club, SGA, Spanish Club, and Spanish National Honor Society. She was a Junior Marshal and serves as Secretary of the Student Body. Seagle is an usher at First Baptist Church and serves on the youth ministry committee. She is a member of the Morganton Human Relations Commission and the Youth Philanthropy Committee. She plans to attend a four-year university and major in biology and chemistry and become a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon. She is escorted by Aiman Hussein, the son of Dr. Diaa and Catherine Hussein.
» Madison Sesco is the daughter of Kevin and Denise Sesco. She participated in the Patton Panther Regiment and participates in powder puff. Sesco is a member of the Anchor Club, Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, and Prom Committee. She served as a Junior Usher and is Corresponding Secretary of the National Honor Society. Sesco is a member of Hartland Baptist Church youth group, participates in mission trips to Memphis, Tennessee through Street Reach, and volunteers for the Carolina’s Healthcare System-Blue Ridge. She plans to attend a four-year university majoring in biology and pursue a career as a nurse practitioner. She is escorted by Shane Moody, the son of Steven and Laurie Moody.
