0526 Di'lishi name change

Temporary signage is displayed for the newly renamed Cup n' Spoon Coffee and Yogurt Bar in the Morganton Heights shopping center.

Changes aren’t new for the Diedricks family’s Morganton frozen yogurt shop.

When they purchased it in October, it was with the intention of installing a coffee bar expansion with new equipment for multiple brews, including tea. Now, they’ve opted to drop their Di’lishi Frozen Yogurt Bar franchise to become the independently owned and operated Cup n’ Spoon Coffee and Yogurt Bar.

“Basically, what it all boils down to is we’re family owned and run frozen yogurt and coffee shop,” George Diedricks said. “We wanted to do more for the community and be part of different events in the community. It was a franchise before. The only way we were going to be able to do that is become independent. That’s why we did that.”

Since it opened, the store always has supported local charitable causes. Now, the Diedricks and his wife, Melissa, hope to become even more involved in that regard. A special beverage, a portion of whose proceeds goes to good causes, is one part of that.

“It means that we are capable and able to make specific decisions on our day-to-day operations and, more importantly, with the community,” Diedricks said. “We have a special drink called A Cup of Grace, and that’s a special drink that’s for the community. A portion of its sales goes back to the community. It represents various different operations in the community. That’s just an example of what we’re trying to do.

“We’re trying to be able to become part of the community, be able to help and be able to bring our family into a bigger family.”

Fans of the shop’s frozen yogurt and toppings bar need not fear. Despite the name change, that facet of the business will not change. Cup n’ Spoon’s main change will be solidifying its foundation as a store based on faith and values.

“All the toppings and fro-yo that we have and all that stuff is going to remain the same,” Diedricks said. “It’s going to be like what has been here for multiple years. The biggest change is our outreach into the community, being able to say that we are a family-based, Christian-run store. That’s the biggest change there, being able to help with different outreaches and things of that nature.”
