Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge has appointed two new members to its board of directors, Susan L. Haire and Felicia Simmons.
Haire is a partner at Starnes Aycock Law Firm in Morganton , where she practices in the areas of civil litigation, insurance defense, commercial and residential real estate, estate planning/probate and mediation work. She is a graduate of East Burke High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She graduated summa cum laude from North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham in 1995. Haire has served on The Community Foundation of Burke County, The Real Estate Section of the North Carolina State Bar, the BB&T local advisory board and was a past president of the 25th District Bar Association. Haire and her husband, David, have a son.
A long-time educator, Simmons serves as principal at Freedom High School. She also has been principal at Table Rock Middle School, Walter Johnson Middle School and West Lenoir Elementary School. She earned a master’s degree in school administration in 2005 from Gardner-Webb University and is currently enrolled to earn her doctorate. She also holds teaching degrees from Appalachian State University and Winston-Salem State University.
Simmons has received many honors , including being named Burke County Public Schools 2017 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year and 2017-18 Outstanding Leadership Award recipient. She is a Paul Harris Fellow recipient from the Rotary Club.
She and her husband, Monte, have three children.
