A Morganton man was arrested on a fugitive warrant for a child sex charge from Missouri on Monday.
Eric Thomas Taylor, 39, of 2180 Hilltop Ave. Lot 2 in Morganton, was arrested on a fugitive from justice warrant for arrest from Missouri for second-degree child molestation, according to court documents.
The Missouri warrant was issued on June 21, according to an official with the Cape Girardeau County courts.
Taylor had his first court appearance Wednesday, where he told Judge Robert A. Mullinax Jr. that there was only one thing he could say when asked if he wanted to fight extradition or waive his right to extradition proceedings.
“Man, I’m dead in this,” Taylor said.
Mullinax asked again, and Taylor responded that he would like to seek counsel and a court appointed attorney. Andrew Sheffer was appointed as Taylor’s attorney.
Taylor has previous North Carolina convictions of second-degree kidnapping, sexual battery, assault on a female and larceny from a person,
Taylor’s bond was set at $2 million secured with a condition that, should he post bond, he can’t have contact with children. His next court date is set for Aug. 2.
