VALDESE — A Morganton man was charged with felony drug possession after a probation check in mid-October.

Homer Lee Cook, 29, of 1025 Iron Lane in Morganton, was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine on Oct. 15, according to a press release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

North Carolina Probation Officers conducted a routine check at a Valdese residence, where they came into contact with Cook, who reached into his pocket and pulled out a small plastic baggie and concealed the item under the fender of a moped while the officers approached him, the release said.

Cook’s criminal history includes a felony conviction of possession of a schedule II controlled substance, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety website.

His bond was set at $10,000 secured with a court date set for Nov. 6, the release said.
