A Morganton man was charged with driving while impaired and felony hit and run after hitting a pedestrian Friday night.

Kirkland Scott Tucker, 23, of 109 E. Fleming Drive, Apartment 309, received the charges after a car crash at the intersection of South Sterling Street and East Fleming Drive, according to an accident report from the Morganton Department of Public Safety.

Tucker was attempt ing to make a left turn from Sterling Street onto East Fleming Dive when he struck Nestor Ulysses V. Nunn, 41, who was stepping onto the median, the report said.

Nunn was hit by the front right corner of Tucker’s vehicle and dragged 38 feet, according to the report. Tucker didn’t stop at the scene.

The crash seriously injured Nunn, according to court documents. Nunn was released from the hospital the next day, said MDPS Capt. Jason Whisnant.

Tucker had a court date set for Monday, his arrest report said. His bond was set at $25,000 secured.
