A man is in critical condition after a fall from a construction site Friday.

Morganton Department of Public Safety officers responded to a call of a fallen man at 400 N. Green St. — the site of the new Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel — at 2:12 p.m.

The man, whose identity and age are unknown at this time, suffered a fall from scaffolding from “at least 25 feet” at the construction site, at the intersection of Green Street and Fleming Place in Morganton, according to MDPS Sgt. N. Edwards.

EMS transported the man, who was in critical condition, to the Grace Hospital Helipad, where he was airlifted to a local hospital. Occupational Safety and Health Administration officials were en route to the scene and will conduct a thorough investigation, Edwards said.

More information will be published as it becomes available.
