HILDEBRAN Mrs. Shelby Jean Wilkie Stilwell, 82, of Hildebran, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, following a period of declining health. Shelby was born April 14, 1937, in Catawba County to the late Leonard P. Wilkie and Bertha Elizabeth Wilkie. She retired from the textile industry, where she worked as a fixer for many years at Valdese Weavers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Champ K. Stilwell Sr.; a son, Champ K. Stilwell Jr.; and a daughter, Phyllis Ann Brown. Survivors include her children, Aleshia Meroney and husband, Tim, of Hildebran, Chris Crump of George Hildebran, and Kay Sigmon and husband, Jon, of Blowing Rock. Also surviving are two sisters, Tyma Kilgore of George Hildebran, and Sue Hinson and husband, Buck, of Hildebran; one brother, Norman Wilkie and wife, Nancy, of Newton, six grandchildren; Miranda Sigmon and husband, Evan, Leandra Becker and husband, Nathan, Alannya Newton and husband, Nick, Ronnie Cook Jr., Wesley Deal and Steven Deal; two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Becker and Ava Newton; and three stepgreat-grandchildren Aden Becker, Hunter Becker and Maddox Sigmon. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Pastor David Workman Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., prior to the service.
