A third Burke County sewer spill was reported by the city of Morganton on Tuesday.
About 50,000 gallons of sewer water spilled into Hunting Creek at the sewer junction box on Vine Arden Road near the wastewater treatment plant, according to a city press release.
Ronnie Suttles, water resources distribution and collection superintendent, said the overflow was mostly rainwater that infiltrated the sewer system during the storms, the release said.
The spill started at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday and stopped at 6 p.m. Sunday.
