LONGVIEW — A Thursday morning traffic stop led to the arrest of a man wanted for murder and armed robbery in Mecklenburg County.

Trooper B.K. Perkins with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol pulled over a vehicle for speeding 89 mph in a 65 mph zone near mile marker 121 on Interstate 40 eastbound, according to a release from NCSHP.

Troopers determined that Ajenee Semuell Forte, 26, of Concord, the passenger of the car, had outstanding warrants from Mecklenburg County for murder and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, the release said.

The driver of the car, Dezmond Tyrell Leach, 25, of Concord, was charged with speeding, a seatbelt violation, failing to pull to the right upon approach of a police vehicle and failing to carry a valid driver’s license, the release said.

Leach and Forte complied with troopers during the traffic stop. No contraband was seized during the stop.

Leach was held under a $500 bond at the Catawba County Detention Center with a court date set for Monday in Newton. Forte was held without bond on the murder charge and under an $80,000 bond for the attempted robbery charge, the release said. His next court date is set for July 11 in Newton.

The Hickory Police Department provided a K-9 unit to assist in the investigation.
