A new store is opening in Morganton that is the first of its kind and is said to be growing across the nation.
Deborah Ann Simons recently opened “Your CBD Store of Morganton,” which sells different items infused with CBD, or Cannabidiol — a legal, genetically modified version of the marijuana that has been proven to help with different ailments, she said.
“We are the first standalone CBD store in the area,” Simons said.
The store offers a relaxed atmosphere and has CBD tincture oils, lotions, bath bombs, face creams, gumdrops, pain creams, lip balm and pet products.
The oil helps those dealing with fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, headaches, seizures, migraines, depression, anxiety and ADHD, she said.
“(The oil) is made from an organic hemp plant … and all the CBD1 and CBD2 are extracted from it,” she said. “Our bodies naturally produce CBD through our endocannabinoid system.”
When someone is stressed or has a physical stress, their body depletes itself of the CBD oil and it causes inflammation and high anxiety.
“To be legal in all 50 states, industrial hemp is grown that produces a very low amount of THC (or tetrahydrocannabinol),” she said. “It has to contain less than 0.3 percent of THC. This is the hemp that is used for CBD products. You don’t get the euphoric high from the THC.”
Simons uses the pain cream twice a day on her feet and the tincture oil, to which she says gives “miraculous results.”
“I really believe in the product,” she said.
The benefits don’t stop there though as it is also has the possibility of helping those addicted to opiates, Simons said.
After transitioning from a 19-year stretch of working in a lab at Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge, she decided to try out something new and found a passion through starting her own business.
The CBD stores are also in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia and more are “popping up,” she said.
“In the next few years, Forbes predicts it to be a billion dollar industry of having these stores pop up,” Simons said. “We have worked on (opening this business) for several months .
Simons says the store is unique because they are willing to sit down with customers and figure out what product would best fit their needs, she said.
“That way we can help people with an alternative of getting away from their prescription anxiety medicine, the heavy narcotics and as a natural way to heal their body rather than turning to pharmaceuticals,” Simons said.
They will be holding a grand opening on Monday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Regular store hours will be Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The store is located at 302 Burkemont Ave. in Morganton.
