A man reported missing on Monday was found Thursday morning.
Dustin Gray, 25, of Statesville, was reported missing after his car was found in tall grass in the parking lot of the gamelands off Johns River Loop, according to a previous News Herald article.
Gray was seen by a Johns River Road resident Thursday at around 11:38 a.m., according to a release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. Once BCSO deputies and EMS confirmed Gray’s identity, he was taken to a local hospital.
An interview with BCSO detectives revealed that Gray left his workplace in Statesville and drove to Burke County, not wanting to be found, according to a release from BCSO.
He told investigators that the walked through the N.C. Wildlife Game Lands until he found a shed and spent the night for two nights, the release said. Gray said he survived off water from the river and corn from the food plots in the fields.
Search workers from the Burke County Rescue Squad, Burke County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Wildlife Commission, Burke County EMS and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office joined together for a hasty search Tuesday, according to a previous News Herald article.
A boat crew searched the river for signs of Gray, while others went through the thick brush surrounding the gamelands looking for him. K-9 units and drones were used in the search, but he was not located, the BCSO release said.
