A high school student was arrested after police say she made threats to shoot up a school on Monday.
Mackenzie Ray Swink, 17, of Melvin Propst Drive, Morganton, was charged with felony making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property, according to a release from the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, a student at Patton High School alerted administration that another student had made threats to “shoot up the school,” the release said.
The principal of Patton High School immediately contacted the school resource officer, who talked to the student who reported the threat. That’s when Mackenzie was brought to the administration office for questioning, the release said.
She was taken into custody and transported to the Burke County Magistrates Office and charged. She was transported to Burke-Catawba District Confinement Facility under a $50,000 secured bond.
She is expected to have a court date Tuesday, according to the release.
