One person was killed and two others hospitalized after a wreck on N.C. 181 on Wednesday morning.
Aaron Daniel Sorrell, 26, of Elizabethton, Tenn., was driving a car headed north on N.C. 181 when he struck a SUV headed south near Perkins Avenue at around 6 a.m., said Trooper G.N. Gentieu with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Austin Chase Seeley, 20, of Johnson City, Tenn., was killed in the crash, Gentieu said. Seeley was a rear passenger in Sorrell’s car and was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, Gentieu said.
If Seeley had worn his seatbelt, he would have survived the crash, Gentieu said.
Halley Annalee Guinn, 22, of Johnson City, Tenn., another passenger in Sorrell’s car, was transported to Mission Hospital in Asheville for treatment of her injuries, Gentieu said.
Sorrell was transported to Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge for treatment of his injuries, Gentieu said.
The driver of the SUV refused treatment by EMS, Gentieu said.
Sorrell told Gentieu that they were on their way back to Tennessee at the time of the crash.
The crash is still under investigation and charges are pending, Gentieu said.
Burke County EMS and Oak Hill Fire and Rescue responded, along with NCSHP, Gentieu said.
