MORGANTON Mrs. Martha Alice Jordan Franklin, 82, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at her residence, following a period of declining health. Alice was born Oct. 13, 1936, in Burke County, to the late Jay Cook, and Rosie Lee Jordan Cook. She retired from Carolina Shoe Company, where she worked as an inspector for many years. Alice was an honorary member of the Lady Auxiliary of Chesterfield Fire & Rescue. She loved to travel, go dancing, listen to her music and working in her flower garden, and could find a yard sale anywhere. Alice also loved Sunday dinners with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Andrew "Tom" Franklin, and one son, Michael Cook. Survivors include her children, Janet Lloyd and husband, Bobby, Joyce Perkins and husband, Michael, and Jane Benfield and husband, Tommy, all of Morganton. Also surviving is a daughter in-law, Adria Cook; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 9, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Chesterfield Fire Department.
