MORGANTON Mr. Larry Gene Hastings, 70, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at his residence, following a brief illness. Larry was born Dec. 13, 1948, in Cleveland County, to the late Rev. Buren Hastings and Muriel Spake Hastings. He was a retired truck driver, and most recently served as a driver and caretaker for autistic children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in-law, George Braidwood, and father-in-law, Rufus Church. Survivors include his beloved wife, Linda Church Hastings of the home; three children, Heather Leigh Hastings of Hickory, Larry Hastings Jr. of Texas, and Randy Eugene Chester and wife, Robin, of Valdese. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Emily Chester Propst and husband, Adam, Sarah Elizabeth Chester, and Marcus Glenn Chester; a great-grandson, Rhett Carroll Propst; three sisters, Christine H. Braidwood, Adene James and husband, Bobby, and Connie Elaine Hastings; his mother in-law, Shirley Jean Church; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 9, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with the Rev. Eric James, Pastor Alan King, and the Rev. William Church officiating.
