MORGANTON Johnny Pinkney Hoke, 81, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019. Born in Burke County, Nov. 17, 1937, he was the son of the late James Quinton Hoke and Mary Idella Branch Hoke. Johnny was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and a veteran of the Air National Guard. He was a southern gentleman who loved his wife, animals, deer, and red mustang. He had many friends and enjoyed taking long drives through the country. Johnny is survived by his wife, Mable Juanita Queen Hoke of the home; sister, Ann Hoke Paschal of Dahlonega, Ga.; a niece; a nephew; several cousins and extended family members; dear friends, Linda and John Woods; and his faithful dog, Crash. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 8, at Salem United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held at 6 p.m. in the church, with the Rev. Norm Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
