MORGANTON Louise Dale Whisenant, 86, of Morganton, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, after a period of declining health. Born in Burke County, June 10, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William Jenkins "Jink" Dale and Jessie Lenoir Seagle Dale. Louise was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church, where she faithfully ministered the Sunday school class for 2-year-olds, with her close friends, Willa Dean Piercy and Julia Moore, until her retirement after 47 years. She also cooked for many families, football teams, players, and her children. She loved to sing with Golden Voices Choir at Burkemont. Louise was a faithful daughter, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She was known for her feisty spirit and fierce love. Louise is survived by her son, the Rev. Andrew Whisenant and wife, Jamie, of Morganton; "adopted" daughters, Ann Minkler (Rocky) of Kinston, Sharon Swinson of Morganton; grandchildren, Marlee (fiancé, Mandel), Kimberly (Brian), Tyler, Michael, Brayleigh; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brian; brother, Ralph Dale of Morganton; sister, Mary Sigmon of Conover; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. "Red" Whisenant; son, Tony; daughter, Patty; six brothers; and a sister. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 16, at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 17, at Burkemont Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Eddy Bunton, Dr. David Mills, and the Rev. Preston Stainback officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
