GRANITE FALLS Roy Edward White of Granite Falls, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019, at the age of 91. He was born April 22, 1928, in Burke County, to the late Romulus R. White and Annie Powell White. He was raised in Glen Alpine, along with his five brothers and six sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Wilson White. He is survived by his sons, Edwin D. White and wife, Kathy Allison White, of Little Switzerland, Keith M. White and wife, Cindy Moore White, of Granite Falls; granddaughter, Alisha White Coleman and husband, Charles H. Coleman IV, of Blythewood, S.C.; grandson, Bradley S. White and wife, Christen Harrison White, of McClellanville, S.C.; and great-granddaughters, Margaret Ruth Coleman and Lucy Jane Coleman. Roy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to garden with his wife, was an avid learner, always kept meticulous notes and journals, and was a wonderful storyteller. He loved to travel, but found nowhere more beautiful than the banks of "the river" where he was raised. He was fun-loving, gracious, and humble. He was well loved and he loved well. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. Roy loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Dry Ponds Baptist Church where he attended and served for many years. A memorial service will be held today (Thursday, Sept. 12), at 3 p.m., at Dry Ponds Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rob Evans officiating. The burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. The family wishes to thank all the employees, staff, and friends at the Shaire Center of Lenoir, for their loving care, friendship, and support for Roy during his final years of life there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Caldwell County Hospice, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645. Bass-Smith Granite is honored to serve the family of Roy Edward White.
