ICARD — The 10th annual Burke County Jamboree high school football scrimmage event will start at 7 p.m. on Friday at East Burke’s Danny Williams Field rather than 5 p.m.
EB athletic director Jim Childers said the change was made due to concerns about temperatures late in the afternoon as that relates to the NCHSAA’s extreme heat policy. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
The order of scrimmages also changes, with Patton and Madison starting at 7, followed by Freedom vs. Lake Norman at 8, Draughn vs. Bandys at 9 and EB vs. R-S Central still playing the nightcap at 10.
Each scrimmage will use a 55-minute running clock with five minutes between scrimmages. Individual teams will determine which format or formats they use for the scrimmages.
The jamboree will consist of varsity-only for a sixth consecutive year, with all action taking place on EB’s game field. Admission is $10.
Bandys has appeared in the event only in 2013 and R-S only in 2018; Madison and Lake Norman have never participated before.
All four county teams open the regular season on Aug. 23.
