East Burke football senior running back Josh Moore is The News Herald’s Farm Bureau high school county athlete of the week for games held Aug. 19-24.

Moore paced the Cavaliers to a season-opening win over Highland Tech, 41-6, on Friday night, scoring four touchdowns as he ran for 204 yards on 20 carries. He also added a 61-yard reception on EB’s first play of the year to finish with 265 yards from scrimmage.

The touchdowns were a career-high for Moore and the best single-game mark for the Cavaliers since Brandon Clark ran for four versus R-S Central in October 2015. Moore’s output on the ground put him over 200 yards rushing for a second straight game after he closed out last fall with a 220-yard game against Draughn.

The News Herald will award an athlete of the week for all sports throughout the year.
