BOCA RATON, Fla. — Running back B.J. Emmons scored his third touchdown in two games since returning from an ankle injury as Florida Atlantic earned a 34-17 home win over Southern Mississippi on Saturday.
The victory locked up a berth in this week’s Conference USA championship game and the East Division title. The Owls (9-3, 7-1) will host UAB.
Emmons, a 2016 Freedom High graduate, followed up a two-touchdown performance last week with another score on Saturday, cashing in from three yards away early in the third quarter to make it 24-10 in favor of the hosts. He later had a 40-yard scamper, the longest run of his college career.
He finished with a game-high 71 yards on 11 carries, earning more than twice as many totes as any other FAU ball-carrier and more than three times as many yards.
Quarterback Chris Robison threw for three touchdowns 156 yards. Harrison Bryant had 75 yards receiving and caught all three touchdown passes.
Emmons now has 125 yards and three TDs on 22 runs this season, averaging 5.7 yards per carry.
