SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- Pedro Gonzalez homered twice and had four RBIs, and Melvin Novoa homered as part of a four-hit day, driving in three as the Hickory Crawdads defeated the Delmarva Shorebirds 9-2 on the road Thursday.

The game opened a four-game series to end the first half of the season for both teams. Hickory (40-23) has now won four of its last five games.

The first home run by Gonzalez scored Novoa to give the Crawdads a 2-0 lead.

Hickory later scored in four additional innings, including a four-run seventh, when Gonzalez hit another two-run homer to help punctuate the blowout.

Hickory starter Yerry Rodriguez (6-2), who was recently named a first-time All-Star, picked up the win after allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings. Opposing starter Ofelky Peralta (4-2) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game after allowing three runs and five hits over five innings.
