The host Freedom JV football team made a two-point conversion stop in the fourth period to hang on for an 8-6 win over rival McDowell to end the season Thursday night.
The JV Patriots (6-3, 4-2 Northwestern 3A/4A Conf.) capped the season with three consecutive victories.
On FHS’ second drive of the contest, BG Hampton rushed for an early second-quarter touchdown and Avery Pollard added the conversion run. The score remained 8-0 until a Titans touchdown with about 3 minutes left, after which Freedom’s defense rose up to preserve the win.
Patriots coach Luke Little credited “good all-around team defense” in winning the finale.

The JV Panthers (3-7, 2-5 Northwestern Foothills 2A Conf.) suffered a fourth straight loss to end the year Thursday in Morganton. No more details were available.
The East Burke at Foard game postponed Oct. 31 and rescheduled for Nov. 12 will no longer be played. The Cavaliers finish with a record of 0-9 overall (0-6 NWFAC).
