MARION — The East Burke Middle girls soccer team defeated previously-unbeaten West McDowell, 3-2, on the road Thursday to create a logjam in the Foothills Athletic Conference standings, with four teams within a game of first place including three within a half-game at the top.

The Lady Raiders’ Macy McNeil and Kylie McFalls each scored in the first half, and Ashley Hernandez opened the second half with a free kick into the back of the net. EB goalkeeper Maritza Cisneros posted 10 saves.


Heritage 1, Liberty 1

The Lady Eagles (3-1-2 FAC) and host Lady Knights (4-1-2 FAC) played to a draw Thursday. Liberty took a 1-0 lead on an early goal from Lorely Tzul before Heritage’s Isabella Caballero knotted the score for good just before halftime.

“This was a fun game to watch as the teams played at a high level,” Liberty coach Paul Gantt said. “We had great team efforts from Bella Johnson, Kinsley Lor and Kinsley Hoyle.”


E. McDowell 3, Walter Johnson 2

The Lady Yellow Jackets (1-5-0 FAC) were edged Thursday despite goals from Maria Perez Rodriguez and Maida Ramirez Tomas.

The Jackets (6-0 FAC) continued an undefeated season at home Thursday as Andy Villanueva scored two goals and Henry Raymundo, Josue Yax and Israel Quinonez scored once apiece. Julio Platero added an assist for WJ.


Liberty 4, Heritage 0

The Knights (6-1 FAC) kept pace a half-game back of first place with Thursday’s victory as Gabe Batz, Xavier Bernabe, Collin Callahan and Grant Huffman scored a goal each.


East Burke 3, W. McDowell 2 (OT)

Brandon Garcia’s overtime penalty-kick goal lifted the Raiders (2-3-1 FAC) to Thursday’s triumph. EB got goals in regulation from Anthony Romero and Mathew Lira.



Heritage 3, Liberty 0

The first-place Lady Eagles (6-0 FAC) won big again Thursday, 25-5, 25-19, 25-14. Kaydin Pritchard led Heritage at the service line, Helena and Speed Hatley led the team in kills and Addie Poteet led the way in assists.


East Burke 3, W. McDowell 0

The Lady Raiders (6-1 FAC) won 27-25, 25-21, 25-23 on Thursday. EB was led at the net by Kamiah Lawing, while Braylen Stilwell and Ally Moore also supplied standout efforts.


E. McDowell 3, Walter Johnson 0

The Lady Jackets fell in straight sets Thursday to remain winless. No more details were available.
