The Liberty Middle girls soccer team escaped a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat rival Table Rock, 2-1, at home Tuesday in Foothills Athletic Conference action.

The Lady Knights (4-1-1 FAC) knotted the score as a Mary Jones corner kick found Maleah Pritchard for a goal. Shortly afterward, Lorely Tzul scored the winning goal. Leah Kirksey provided the Lady Falcons’ lone score.


Heritage 5, Walter Johnson 0

The Lady Eagles (3-1-1 FAC) soared to a rainy shutout victory Tuesday in Morganton. Heritage’s Isabella Caballero scored four goals, and Laney Hodge added the other score.

Heritage will travel to Liberty on Thursday in a battle to stay in second place in the conference behind undefeated West McDowell.



Walter Johnson 9, Heritage 0

The host Yellow Jackets (5-0 FAC) remained perfect Tuesday as Israel Quinonez scored three goals and Clay Smith added two goals. WJ also got a goal and two assists from three different players: Steven Morales, Luis Hernandez and Calix Pedro.

Andy Villanueva scored once and Julio Platero had one assist, while Jackets goalkeepers Isai Jimenez and Avery Lindecamp combined on the shutout.


Liberty 7, Table Rock 0

The Knights (5-1 FAC) took care of the Falcons at home Tuesday, scoring six second-half goals to break open the contest after a Xavier Bernabe penalty-kick goal represented all of the offense prior to halftime.

Liberty was also led on offense by Collin Callahan, Gabrial Batz, Grant Huffman, Brandon Uribe and Braxton Reinhardt and on defense by keeper Charles Morales.



Heritage 3, Walter Johnson 0

The host Lady Eagles (5-0) earned a sweep of the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday to remain atop the league, 25-9, 25-12, 25-9. Individual statistics were not available.

“All the girls played really well,” said HMS coach Travis Poteat. “We were excited to get another win.”


Table Rock wins pair

The Lady Falcons (3-3 FAC) won in straight sets both Monday over West McDowell (27-25, 25-17, 25-14) and Tuesday over Liberty (25-13, 25-16, 25-15) for their second and third consecutive 3-0 triumphs over a six-day span.

TR was paced Monday by Hannah Buchanan (six aces, kill), Kelbony Clark (six kills, three aces), Ava Whitaker (five aces, kill), Tristan Silva Juarez (four aces, kill) and Mary Taylor (three aces).

On Tuesday, the Falcons’ winning effort was fueled by Buchanan (eight aces, two kills), Whitaker (five kills, ace), Clark (eight aces, four kills), Juarez (five aces) and Anyia Bell (three aces, two kills).



Seven events postponed due to extreme heat last Thursday have now been rescheduled. Heritage faces West McDowell in both volleyball and boys and girls soccer on Oct. 16. East Burke and East McDowell will also play their soccer doubleheader on Oct. 16. And the Table Rock-Walter Johnson soccer games will be made up Oct. 23.
