The Patton football team has been picked to finish fourth in the Northwestern Foothills 2A Conference this fall in a recent vote by 10 media members who cover the conference.
Patton earned 51 points in the poll, tops among the three county teams in the league as Draughn (31) was voted to finish sixth and East Burke (25) seventh in the eight-team conference.
Hibriten, which has won the conference in undefeated fashion in the first two years of the league’s existence, garnered nine first-place votes to lead the polling with 79 total points. Foard (62) received the other first-place vote, and West Iredell (60) finished third in the poll.
Fifth-place Bunker Hill (41) and newcomer West Caldwell (11, eighth) rounded out the order.
The Tigers boasted the preseason conference player of the year pick in senior running back Corey Siemer, who earned six votes. A season ago, Siemer ran for 2,501 yards and 28 touchdowns on 228 carries, adding 103 yards on six receptions.
Other player of the year votes went to Hibriten quarterback Daren Perry (two), East Burke running back Josh Moore and West Iredell running back Emmanuel Long. Moore is coming off a junior season during which he led Burke County with 1,319 rushing yards, adding 11 touchdowns on 267 attempts.
