SALISBURY — Burke County Post 21 kept itself alive with a win early Saturday afternoon, but a loss later than evening eliminated the team from the N.C. Junior American Legion Lady Fastpitch state playoffs at East Rowan High School.

Burke defeated McDowell County Post 56 by an 11-6 score before falling to Kannapolis Post 115 by a 5-1 margin. Both games were capped by the 1 ½-hour time limit.

Against McDowell, Post 21 boasted a number of big contributors including Madilynn Taylor (2 for 2, 4 runs), Brianna Nations (2/3, 3 runs, RBI), Bridget Patrick (3 for 4, 4 RBIs, double), Hailey Snodgrass (2 for 3, run), Maddison Powell (RBI double), Tristan Juarez (double, run) and Jasmine Webb (double, run). Mikhayla Lingafelt (K) and Patrick combined in the circle for the win.

Versus Kannapolis, Nations scored Post 21’s lone run off a first-inning single and Lingafelt’s RBI base hit. Lingafelt and Patrick again combined efforts in the pitcher’s circle, striking out two Post 115 batters apiece.
