VALDESE — The Burke County Recreation League youth football semifinals in all three age groups are set for Draughn High School this Saturday starting at 9 a.m.

In pony division (ages 5-6) play to open the day, No. 2 W.A. Young (8-1) meets No. 3 Mull (7-2) before No. 1 Oak Hill (9-0) tangles with No. 4 Valdese (6-3). Starting at 11:30 a.m., the mustang division (ages 7-8) semis pit No. 2 W.A. Young (7-1) vs. No. 3 Oak Hill (6-2) and No. 1 Mull (8-0) vs. No. 4 Valdese (5-3).

And to close the day at 2 p.m. in the bronco division (ages 9-11), No. 2 Glen Alpine (7-1) squares off with No. 3 Valdese (5-3) before No. 1 Oak Hill (8-0) tangles with No. 4 W.A. Young (5-3).

Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.

Winners advance to the championship games Nov. 16 starting at 9 a.m. at Freedom High.

Last year's county champions were the Forest Hill midgets, Glen Alpine mighty mites and Mull pee wees, though age divisions changed in the offseason.
